Biography

Shaping orchestras —
through sound, repertoire,
and direction.
Music Director of the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire and Artistic and Music Director of the Ulsan Philharmonic Orchestra, Sascha Goetzel is known for building distinctive orchestral identity — pairing the symphonic canon with rediscovered repertoire, and connecting musical excellence with education and cultural purpose.
Born and raised in Vienna, he studied with Seiji Ozawa, Jorma Panula, and received coachings with Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, and André Previn, and was a Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Festival. His recordings on Deutsche Grammophon, Warner Classics, Onyx, Naïve, and BIS span repertoire from Hindemith and Bartók to Berlioz, Tchaikovsky, and Respighi. His recent BIS release received the 2026 Award for Best Orchestral Recording from BBC Music Magazine.
